IIT Campus Newspaper Project 1928-1980
The Illinois Institute of Technology's
campus newspaper has been published continuously since 1928.
Originally titled Armour Tech News,
it later became IIT Technology News when Armour merged with the Lewis Institute
of Humanities. The Paul V. Galvin Library has a nearly complete set of the
newspaper, missing only a handful of issues
since 1928.
This collection is an important historical
resource for the IIT community as well as the
public. The campus newspaper has covered
the university's historical events as well as
everyday student life for over 70 years.
The Galvin Library is the only institution with
a significant run of the publication.
Unfortunately, many issues were printed on acidic newsprint and
have become very brittle over time. Because of their condition, most of the volumes cannot be used by
patrons without being damaged.
Funding provided by an Educate and Automate grant
through the Illinois State Library has allowed
the Galvin Library to preserve these documents
and make them available publicly through this
website.
All article titles from years 1928-1981 have
been indexed and are now searchable.
Special collections staff have begun the slow process of scanning
individual articles. If you come across a title that has not
been scanned, please contact Aric Ahrens, Government Documents
Depository Coordinator and he will scan the item and make it available
as soon as possible. Contact information: (312) 567-3614 or
ahrens@iit.edu.
You may also contact Aric for permission to use the microfilm/microfiche
scanner.
