As a new feature of
WorldCat, you can now register for a personal account. Once registered, you can view all
your requests, monitor arrival status and see due dates
online. You can apply for renewal or cancel your requests online,
as well as see when items are recalled for immediate return.
Unreturned recall or overdue items borrowed through
interlibrary loan can lead to a loss of library privileges.
This personal account in WorldCat can also be used to save searches and marked records
and to configure personal preference options across multiple
search sessions.
Note: Please follow all directions as
detailed below. Failure to use the proper information may
lead to problems accessing your WorldCat account.
To create a valid account: Go to WorldCat by starting at the Galvin
Library home page (www.gl.iit.edu).
Locate the "Research" drop down menu, select "Catalogs", then WorldCat. Accessing
WorldCat from off-campus, you will be asked to login using
your Library ID and last name if you are a student, or faculty/staff
will be asked to enter their IIT email username and password.
Once you are in WorldCat:
1. Click the My Account link on any
page in WorldCat.
2. On the OCLC User Registration screen, click the New User
Registration link.
3. On the New User Registration screen, complete all required
fields (denoted with an asterisk *).
User Name: The required username is
your library ID number. Students are required to
use their 14 digit library ID beginning with 627350 found
at the bottom of the student ID card. Faculty and staff may still use a 9
digit ID.
Password: Select a password for this
account. The password is case-sensitive and must be a minimum
of 8 characters. Do not forget this password as Galvin Library
staff does not have access to this information.
First Name: Use your complete IIT email
address
Last Name: Use your 14 digit library ID
number.
The 'First Name' and 'Last Name' fields cannot be left
empty.
E-mail: Enter your IIT e-mail address. All requests for articles or other interlibrary loan materials
require an IIT-issued email address to be processed.
Other fields on the form should be
left empty.
Click the Register button.
To view your request list:
Log
in to My Account, and then click on the My Requests button
on the Resource Sharing tab. From here you can also renew or
delete your requests. You can update your profile information
at any time by clicking on the My Account link above the
main task area.
Problems with MyAccount:
If you are having problems with your My
Account section, but can still access that section,
here is the recommended adjustment: In the First Name field,
please enter your IIT email address. In the Last Name field,
please enter your 14-digit IIT library ID number.
