Guide for Compendex
Who uses Compendex?
All topics in Engineering use Compendex:
Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Environmental Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
What is the coverage
of Compendex?
Compendex indexes Engineering publications from
1970 to the present. However, when you search Compendex, unless
you specify otherwise, you are searching the last ten years.
Compendex includes both conference papers and journal articles.
Is Compendex a full-text
database?
Compendex contains citations and abstracts only.
However, if you are using Compendex in the library, certain citations
will link to the article's full text in the Science Direct database
(which is in-library use only). For instructions on how to
find journal articles, please consult our user guide at http://www.gl.iit.edu/resources/journals/journ.asp.
Where do I access
Compendex?
Select Compendex from the database page on the
Galvin Library home page at http://www.gl.iit.edu/database/database.htm.
How do I search Compendex?
Compendex allows for field searching,
which means you can search by all fields, author, or serial
title. Compendex also allows Boolean searching which
means combining terms that you want to appear together in your results,
like an author publishing in a particular serial.
Limit your search by year and document type (conference
papers or journal articles). Sort your results
either by Relevance or Publication date.
