Access & Usage
The university library system has a primary mission to support the educational, teaching, research, and administrative needs of the faculty, students, and staff of Illinois Institute of Technology. The collections are accessible to others whose information needs require these resources, and any individual has access to library facilities to use general stack collections, space and resources permitting. Due to the specialized nature or fragility of some materials, the use of some special collections may be governed by more restrictive policies. Policies governing the use of the facilities and collections reflect this mission.
Library staff are committed to maintaining a quality study and research environment, protecting the rights of users and sustaining the integrity of collections. In addition to policies and procedures noted below, university-wide policies or civil laws related to facilities or collection vandalism apply.
Statement of Responsibility
Borrowing privileges are extended to eligible patrons with the understanding that they will utilize GRC holdings responsibly. As such, patrons are expected to handle borrowed materials safely, return them on time, understand and follow GRC policies, and respect GRC staff and patrons. Borrowing privileges may be revoked if in the opinion of GRC staff a patron abuses GRC materials, staff, or the privilege itself. All outstanding fines and penalties accrued by patrons are recorded not only by the GRC, but also by the Paul V. Galvin Library and I-Share consortium and thus will impact your eligibility as a borrower at all IIT Libraries and I-Share member institutions. Additionally, all unpaid fines and fees are recorded by the IIT Bursar and will affect your ability to register, send transcripts, and/or get grades if not addressed.
Eligible Patrons
Eligible patrons of the GRC are: the IIT community, including faculty and spouse, students, staff and spouse; IIT College of Architecture alumni, and; authorized visiting scholars.
Study and Computer Areas
Some areas within library facilities serve users with specific collection needs. Priority seating

Any person who willfully, maliciously, or wantonly mutilates, defaces, or mars any library material
or facility will be asked to make appropriate restitution, and may be subjected to loss of library

Illinois state law.
Security and Safety
Any person using the library may be asked by library staff and/or security personnel to show
identification and, if the person refuses, he or she may be asked to leave the facility. Library
staff are authorized and will call IIT Public Safety to remove any person refusing to vacate the
facility, or any time there is a disturbance or suspicious activity. 911 will be called in case
of fire or medical emergency or if law enforcement assistance is needed.
