Give to the Library

Reserves allow students to use materials set aside by faculty to assist in coursework. This may include textbooks, reading material, practice exams, problem sets, etc. For questions on reserves, contact the Reserves Specialist at coursereserves@iit.edu or 312.567.3620.

The library welcomes the donation of all types of materials -- books, journals, conference papers, reports, etc. -- subject to the provisions of the library's Collection Development Policy. Donations may be dropped off at the library at any time, although it is highly recommended that those wishing to donate larger collections use the contact form below first.

The decision to accept gifts for addition to the library's collection will be made by the Head of Collection Development & Management and the appropriate subject librarian(s). Large gift collections or gifts of potentially rare or valuable materials will only be accepted after proper consultation has also been made with the Dean of Libraries.

Gifts of manuscripts or archival materials should be referred to the University Archives.

  • Donated items not selected cannot be returned to the donor.

In most circumstances, donors are responsible for transporting gifts to the library. In certain cases, the library will pay for packing and shipping of gift items. These arrangements should be made in advance with the subject librarian or the Head of Collection Development & Management.

Donors wishing to receive a letter of acknowledgment must include their contact information when making a donation. Donated materials may be book-plated at the request of the donor.

Note: Due to IRS rules, the library cannot make monetary appraisals of donated materials. For gifts that require a Deed of Gift, the Dean of Libraries will process these deeds.
