Access Services
at Biegler Library
Access Services are designed to help you
obtain access to the particular information resources you have already
identified as being useful to your educational and research needs.
These information resources -- books, journal and magazine articles,
theses and dissertations, and other types of materials--might be found
in IIT libraries, or they might be obtained from another library or
information supplier anywhere in the world.
Access Services consists of three major areas:
Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Reserves.
-
Circulation handles the checking-out
and returning of library materials, provides information regarding
the status of library items, and maintains the circulating book
collection, current periodicals, and current newspapers.
-
Interlibrary Loan provides access
to materials not owned or available in the IIT libraries and
lends IIT materials to other libraries as requested. Using electronic
sources for verifying and ordering books and journal articles,
interlibrary loan locates, borrows, and provides access to research-related
materials as requested by library patrons.
-
Reserves consist of limited copies
of required readings made available in an equitable manner for
IIT students. Required course materials may be maintained at
and distributed from the Biegler Desk. The formats include photocopies,
books, CD-ROMs and videos. The Galvin Library provides Electronic
Reserves that allows online access to material that your instructor
has assigned for a particular course. E-Reserves are listed
by instructor's last name and by course title and number. E-Reserves
are accessible only to IIT students.
