Compendex
Compendex is the definitive bibliographic database of worldwide engineering literature trusted by engineering researchers worldwide. With over ten million records that reference more than 5,600 scholarly journals, trade magazines and conference proceedings, Compendex covers an unmatched breadth and quality of engineering publications.
Contrails
Produced by Galvin Library's Government Documents Depository staff, the Contrails website includes over 1,000 technical reports issued by the United States Air Force that have been digitized and indexed in an online database. Covering the history of the first century of powered human flight (including the space race in the 1950s and '60s), Contrails provides the only online access available for many of these reports, which are scanned at archival quality Coverage is mostly of the second half of the 20th century, with most reports dating from the 1950's through the 1970's.
CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace
"The CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace offers comprehensive bibliographic coverage of research, emerging technologies, applications and companies in the areas of aeronautics, astronautics, computer and information technology, electronics, communications, solid state materials and devices, and space sciences. Everything from theoretical research through practical application is covered. Sources covered include over 3,000 periodicals, conference proceedings, technical reports, trade journal/newsletter items, patents, books, and press releases."
DARTS - Depository Access to Reports, Technical and Scientific
Depository Access to Reports, Technical and Scientific (DARTS) provides access to government-produced technical information. DARTS features full-text files that have been posted by the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) as a result of a purchase request. This database covers the period 1964-present. Because the DARTS database only provides access to digitized materials, the collection is a tiny fraction of the full NTIS collection. DARTS is provided by the Department of Commerce only to participating Depository libraries and requires a Reference Librarian for a moderated login.
Note: Available only at the Galvin Library. Please see a librarian at the Reference Desk for username and password.
DTIC Online: Public Technical Reports
DTIC Online provides access to technical reports from all three branches of the military. DTIC Online is particularly strong in regards to aerospace technical reports issued by the United States Air Force. DTIC Online provides citation and some PDF full-image access to unclassified reports only. Access to DTIC Online is provided by the Defense Technical Information Center, which distributes technical information to the military and their contractors in a similar fashion to that employed by the National Technical Information Service to distribute technical information to the public. Full image access is scattered prior to the rise of the Internet in the mid 1990's. Some reports which are unavailable for download via DTIC Online may be available via IIT'S own Contrails website.
NASA Technical Reports Server - NTRS
The NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) provides access to 500,000 citations and 90,000 full image files in PDF format. The collection covers the complete history of NASA and its forefather, the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA), from 1915 to forward, with full-text/image coverage increasing with time. Many of the technical reports for which there are no full image files are held by Galvin Library in our Government Documents collection in microfiche machine-readable format. To find these items, use the IIT Library Catalog. If the report you want is only available in microfiche format, you can submit a Microfiche Scanning request, and Government Documents staff will scan the item and post it to their site in PDF format for you.
NTIS - National Technical Information Service
The National Technical Information Service is an agency of the Department of Commerce whose role is to distribute government-produced technical information to the public. NTIS operates in a revenue neutral manner, similar to that of the Post Office, and therefore charges for access to their documents. Some NTIS documents are also distributed in paper or microfiche format to the Galvin Library due to its status as a depository library. NTIS materials held by Galvin may be searched via the IIT Library Catalog.
Web of Science
Web of Science provides access to current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,700 of the most prestigious, high-impact research journals in the world. Web of Science also provides a unique search method, cited reference searching. With it, you can navigate forward, backward, and through the literature, searching all disciplines and time spans to uncover all the information relevant to your research. The citation index allows you to see (a) all the references cited by the article, and (b) what other articles have cited the article. This is a good database to use if you have an article of interest and want to expand your search to related documents. Links to related articles are provided.
Note: Limited to three (3) concurrent users
