Voices of the Holocaust Receives Recognition

The Voices of the Holocaust, a website in development by Galvin Library Staff, has begun to gain recognition as a powerful resource for scholars and the public alike.

Voices, http://voices.iit.edu, has been recognized by the following organizations as an exceptional website:

  • USA Today  - Hot Site award on September 6, 2000

  • Encyclopedia Britannica  - Site of the Day, September 7, 2000

  • Internet Scout Report Selection, September 1, 2000

  • Blue Web’n – 5 stars, September, 2000

We expect the high profile website will gain even more recognition as the Galvin Library continues to develop the site, adding more Real Audio files as well as interactive mapping capabilities.

Currently, Voices provides the full-text transcription of 70 interviews with Holocaust survivors taken in 1946.  These are possibly the earliest oral history recordings made of survivors of the concentration camps.  The interviews were conducted by Dr. David P. Boder, who was then the director of the Institute of Psychology at IIT.
