Galvin Library Adds over 1,200 Full-text
E-journals We are pleased to announce that the Galvin Library has
just entered into a three year agreement with Elsevier making
available the entire collection of over 1,100 Elsevier journals plus about
100 journals from 25 prestigious societies and other publishers through
the database ScienceDirect. Coverage goes as far back as 1995
depending on the title and includes over 1.2 million articles. This
brings to approximately 5,000 the number of refereed full-text electronic
journals available through the Galvin Library.
The Galvin Library currently subscribes to 50+ of the Elsevier
titles in print. There are no limitations on viewing and/or
downloading from these titles and they are accessible from your
desktops.
However, the remaining 1,100+ e-journals to which we do not
subscribe in print, are available in full-text only in the Galvin
Library or the Biegler Library.
You can access a list of the full text titles available from Galvin
Library computers here: Science
Direct Journal List.
To access these journals, you must be using one of the Galvin
Library's, or Biegler Library's computers go to the Galvin web page at www.gl.iit.edu.
You may go to the database page and click on ScienceDirect or access them
directly from a Compendex search. In either case, if you click on
“Article” and not “PDF Format” you will have links to abstracts
and full-text articles from the bibliography at the end of the article.
On the other hand, the graphics are superior with the PDF format. If
you look at both “Article” and “PDF Format” on the same day, we
will be charged for only one access.
In a Compendex search the publisher is identified in the citation.
When the publisher is Elsevier, click on the “abstract” (or
“tagged format”), go to “full text options” at the bottom of the
abstract, and click on ScienceDirect.
